Frequently asked questions

Is sous vide hard to use?
No — season, seal, set a temperature and come back later. The water bath handles the judgment part.

Do I need a vacuum sealer?
No. Zip-top freezer bags with the water-displacement method work well.

What pot do I need?
Anything from 6 to 12 litres (about 1.5–3 gallons). It clamps to the side and fills between the MIN and MAX lines.

Can I control it from my phone?
Yes — pair it over Wi-Fi with the app, or use the LED touchscreen on the unit.

Watch it in action

A steak, start to finish.

One of our first testers filmed a full cook on the Searlume: into the bath, out for the sear, onto the board.

From Searlume kitchens

First impressions from friends who tested the Searlume before launch.

The whole process feels much simpler than I expected. Set the temperature, let it cook, then finish it in the pan.

Alex R. · Early tester

The biggest difference for me is consistency. I’m not constantly checking the steak and worrying I’ve gone too far.

Marcus T. · Early tester

I originally wanted it for steak, but I can see myself using it just as much for chicken and meal prep.

Jamie L. · Early tester

Really straightforward to use. I like that I can get dinner started and focus on everything else.

Chris M. · Early tester

The appeal for me is being able to repeat the same result instead of relying on timing and guesswork every time.

Taylor S. · Early tester

I thought sous vide was going to be complicated, but the actual process is surprisingly simple.

Jordan P. · Early tester

It’s one of those kitchen tools where the benefit makes sense as soon as you see the finished steak.

Sam W. · Early tester

Being able to cook the inside precisely and then just worry about the sear at the end is a much easier workflow.

Ryan H. · Early tester

I’d probably buy it for steak alone, but the fact it works for salmon, chicken and other meals makes it much more useful.

Morgan C. · Early tester

Still cutting into your steak to see if it's done?

Overcooked outside. Undercooked center.

High heat cooks from the outside in, making timing important.

Constant checking.

Thermometers, timers, flipping, resting and hoping you got it right.

Expensive steak deserves better.

Premium meat shouldn't turn dinner into a guessing game.

Searlume changes the way you control temperature.

Consistency you can see

Edge-to-edge control.

Sous vide brings food gradually toward a temperature you choose, instead of exposing it to continuous high heat and hoping the timing works out. The water holds steady, so the center arrives at the same doneness as the edges.

That makes results repeatable. Cook the same cut the same way next week and you can expect the same outcome, with far less pressure on your timing.

Cook to temperature. Finish with a sear. Serve.

Why sous vide?

Conventional high-heat cooking

Heat moves from the outside toward the center. The outside keeps cooking while the center catches up, so a minute either way changes the result. Timing does a lot of the work.

Precision water-bath cooking

The cooking environment is held near the temperature you set. Food moves toward that temperature and stays close to it, which gives you more control over final doneness.

Why Searlume?

Cooking an expensive piece of meat shouldn't feel like gambling with dinner.

Precision cooking has been standard in professional kitchens for years. It is the least mysterious part of how restaurants get consistent results, and it does not take years of training. It takes holding a temperature.

Searlume exists to put that within reach of an ordinary home kitchen. We spent six months and 17 rounds of samples getting this cooker right before we were willing to put our name on it.

Yes, there are cheaper cookers out there. The difference is what stands behind this one: a one-year warranty, 45-day returns, free US shipping with duties covered, and a real person to email when you have a question.

Questions?

We've got answers.

Sous vide is cooking in a temperature-controlled water bath. Food goes into a sealed bag, the bag goes into water, and the cooker circulates and holds that water at the temperature you set. Because the water never gets hotter than your target, the food moves toward that temperature and stays near it.

Dinner shouldn't be a guessing game.

Cook with precision. Finish with confidence.
